OVERVIEW
To provide assistance to the teacher in a variety of instructional activities and to relieve teacher of routine clerical tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School education or equivalent required
- Associate’s Degree or 60 college credit hours required at time of hire OR pass the ParaPro Test provided by the district
- Ability to work well with students, staff and parents; good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to operate general office machines
- Ability to organize and prioritize
- Ability to instruct students, parents, staff, etc in proper and safe crosswalk practices
- Ability to lift and/or move speed zone and crossing signs for proper placement
- Knowledge of traffic safety rules and school policies and procedures
- Ability to adhere to and enforce safe crosswalk practices
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work in close proximity with assigned teacher and students
- Assist students, individually or in groups, to reinforce skills and/or oversee learning activities
- Assist with classroom computer instruction
- Participate as a stakeholder in school improvement initiatives
- Develop classroom materials (i.e. instructional activities, bulletin boards, reference materials, etc.) to provide assistance to teacher in support of lesson plans
- Maintain instructional equipment to ensure the availability of items when required
- Perform record keeping and general clerical functions (i.e. student records, schedules, lesson plans, progress reports, etc.) to support the teacher and/or administrator in providing records and/or materials
- Regular and on-time attendance required
- Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
- Supervise the safe crossing of school children in designated crossing areas
- Assist students, parents, and staff, etc to provide safe access to and from school
- Communicate to students, parents, staff and visitors to ensure their understanding of school policies and enforcement procedures
- Report observations and/or incidents relating to students to appropriate school personnel
- Respond to emergency situations to address immediate safety concerns
- Wear orange safety vest and carry MPS issued, red hand-held sign to guide students, parents, staff, etc through crossing area
- Place and remove school crossing and traffic control signs to notify motorists of school pedestrian crossing
