OVERVIEW:
To assist in providing for the security and protection for student, staff and property at assigned site; to gather information to resolve security issues and determine appropriate response; to convey information and provide written support; to develop and deliver training to security monitors assigned to site.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED required; college classes in criminal justice or related field preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents and public; good verbal and written communication skills; maintain confidentiality
- Experience working with youth and public preferred
- Knowledge of Arizona laws pertaining to schools and youth preferred
- Experience in law enforcement or school security preferred
- Knowledge of drugs and alcohol and their detection and effects
- Ability to work split shifts or extra duty events when needed
- Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time
- Successfully pass agility test for security staff
- Successful completion of security training program prior to the end of probationary period
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct and guide security monitors assigned to site
- Assist administrators in the enforcement of all school district regulations and state laws and report infractions of such rules to the appropriate authorities
- Serve as witness in a disciplinary due process hearing or court case as required
- Submit oral and written reports to school/district as required
- Maintain vigilance and assist in crime prevention on campuses and sites
- Identify students and non-students who are in violation of school rules or state laws and report to the appropriate authorities
- Assist in student control in surrounding neighborhood as appropriate
- Assist Security Attendance Specialist with truant students
- Assist bus driver with bus security and discipline problems; ride school bus as needed
- Assist with extracurricular events as needed
- Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
