OVERVIEW
To provide (under direct supervision) a variety of instructional activities to support the classroom teacher and/or interventionist working with students who are academically disadvantaged in Reading, Writing, and Math.
QUALIFICATIONS
According to federal guidelines, Title I instructional assistants must be highly qualified according to the following requirements:
- Associate’s degree or 60 semester hours of coursework documented by a transcript from an accredited institution of higher education
OR
Pass ParaPro Test to meet Every Student Succeeds Act, December 2015 requirement
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) may be preferred at some sites
- Ability to work well with students and staff; good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to operate general office machines
- Ability to organize and to prioritize
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work in close proximity with assigned teacher and specific students
- Assist students, individually or in groups, to reinforce skills and/or oversee learning activities
- Follow specific functions as outlined in a written plan to supplement classroom instruction
- Assist with classroom computer instruction
- Assist with translation when necessary
- Participate in professional development (site/district) to enhance ability to support student achievement
- Participate as a stakeholder in school improvement initiatives
- Complete training to assist in the administration and scoring of assessments
- Regular and on-time attendance required
- Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
