Position
To maintain heating/air conditioning systems; to identify repair and/or replacement needs; to provide necessary information on the proper use of equipment; and to ensure adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner.
Qualifications
- High School education or equivalent required; related trade school training helpful
- Valid, or ability to obtain, Arizona driver’s license
- Minimum three years journey mechanic training or equivalent work experience with evaporative cooling units and air handling equipment
- Working knowledge of tools, materials, methods and safe working practices of the trade
- Ability to read electrical schematics and to troubleshoot unit control circuits
- Ability to read and to work from blueprints; to understand and to work with voltages up to 480V
- Ability to understand and willingness to perform preventive maintenance duties
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds; to work from a height of up to 35 feet on personal lifts; to climb ladders up to 30 feet to access rooftop equipment; willingness to work alone when necessary
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and to establish and to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships
- Ability to work overtime and to change schedules with minimal notice; willingness to work non-regular hours (weekends, night shift, swing shift, holidays)
Essential Duties
- Working from a written work order, travel throughout assigned area of the district to perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot and repair tasks on all types and styles of evaporative cooling, gas heating, air handling, air exhausting, air compressing equipment and related devices in a competent and timely manner
- Communicate with school site-based personnel to keep them properly informed of equipment status
- Communicate with immediate supervisor(s) to keep them informed of work order status
- Keep service vehicle clean, orderly and properly stocked
- Process assigned paperwork in a timely manner
- Regular and on-time attendance required
- Assist in keeping the HVAC shop clean
Marginal Duties
- Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
Supervision
HVAC Lead
Prior to employment or during the first 3 months of new hire probationary period, drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work Operations in a safety sensitive position. Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment. In compliance with federal law, employees required to have a Commercial Driver's License shall also be tested upon application, post-accident and at random.
