Base Salary:

$54,035.00

Performance Pay:

Available annually

New hire experience:

$500 for each full-time year of certified teaching

or verified like experience

New hire education:

$65/hour of graduate level credits: BA +45 hours max,

MA +60 hours max $1000 for advanced degrees

Class/Calendar:

Certified Exempt, 187 workdays

Candidates must complete an on-line application which requires appropriate Arizona certification, valid IVP Arizona fingerprint clearance card, evidence of highly qualified status, three letters of recommendation, and transcript of credits.

 

OVERVIEW:

The Curriculum Content Specialist for ELAD requires expertise in a specified area.  The curriculum specialist will develop and coordinate a variety of support mechanisms available to teachers and school sites related to a specific curricular area.  The curriculum specialist maintains a state and national presence for MPS through conferences and committee participation and other appointments as they arise.  The curriculum specialist works with other specialists and teachers in developing and/or acquiring aligned curricular resources and assessments.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Meets the criteria of a highly qualified teacher in the content area assigned with Arizona certification and at least 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Effective in communication, planning, organization, presentation, and leadership skills; able to work with and motivate others
  • Ability to plan and present information/training for the adult learner
  • Memberships in professional organizations and affiliations preferred
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of a variety of assessment methods/tools and the ability to apply the data to improve curriculum and instruction in the assigned content area
  • Knowledge of curriculum design, mapping, etc.
  • Ability to work with other specialists to integrate where appropriate with other content areas and to articulate with various grade levels
  • Understands the purpose and specifics of core, supplemental, and intervention programs and serves as a guide to the staff to effectively implement these programs
  • Models direct, explicit systematic instruction including effective teaching techniques and strategies
  • Increases and enhances own professional knowledge, skills, and expertise about effective instruction
  • Demonstrates knowledge of national, state, and district standards and trends concerning instructional methods, resources, and strategies
  • Demonstrates proficiency with technology including presentation equipment, word processing and desktop publishing; and a willingness to innovatively apply technology appropriately and effectively in the content area
  • Exemplary professional relationships with teachers, administrators, parents, students, and community

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with other specialists to design training for new and continuing teachers in the use of district materials, curricula, National and State Standards, and assessments
  • Assists district level and building level specialists, teachers, administrators, and other staff as necessary to understand content area needs, innovations, strategies, etc.
  • Acts as a liaison between the District and the Arizona Department of Education (ADE), institutes of higher education, business partners, professional organizations, and community groups as related to the specific content area
  • Serves as a model by demonstrating lessons in the classroom when appropriate
  • Coordinates teacher (and other staff as needed) professional development related to the content area
  • Develops online learning opportunities for students and professional development activities for staff
  • Works in conjunction with district staff to create instructional and staff development materials
  • Serves as the key communicator regarding the content area to appropriate audiences
  • Provides leadership and works effectively as part of the Curriculum and Instruction department to enhance cross-discipline integration
  • Provides leadership for the district curriculum content area sub-committee
  • Coordinates the writing and revision of district curricula in the content area
  • Coordinates the adoption of textbook, technological, and other material needs of content
  • Monitors end of course testing/assessment
  • Maintains and expands current knowledge of curricula and instructional
  • Reports annually to Curriculum & Instruction and other District leadership on program effectiveness
  • Assists in pursuing grant monies to enhance programs related to students and teachers
  • Maintains appropriate funding documentation (time and effort logs)
  • Works with parents and others in the community as necessary
  • Completes other duties as assigned
