JOB TITLE:      CTE Family & Consumer Science Teacher

Base Salary:

$54,035.00

Performance Pay:

Available annually

New hire experience:

$500 for each full-time year of certified teaching

or verified like experience

New hire education:

$65/hour of graduate level credits: BA +45 hours max,

MA +60 hours max $1000 for advanced degrees

Class/Calendar:

Certified Exempt, 187 workdays

Candidates must complete an on-line application which requires appropriate Arizona certification, valid IVP Arizona fingerprint clearance card, evidence of highly qualified status, three letters of recommendation, and transcript of credits.

 

OVERVIEW:
The CTE FACS Content Specialist works with teachers, CTE department staff and various district departments to support the implementation and integration of CTE state and district standards/curriculum for the junior high FACS courses and high school Culinary Arts programs. This program is designed to prepare students for employment and/or postsecondary opportunities in the field of Culinary Arts.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Arizona Career & Technical Education teaching certificate in an approved content area
  • Minimum 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Effective in communication, planning, organization, presentation, and leadership skills; able to work with and motivate others
  • Ability to plan and present information/training for the adult learner
  • Memberships in professional organizations and affiliations preferred
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of effective instructional strategies and research-based best practices including EEI and clinical supervision
  • Knowledge of curriculum design, mapping, etc.
  • Ability to work with other specialists to integrate where appropriate with other content areas and to articulate with various grade levels
  • Increases and enhances own professional knowledge, skills, and expertise about effective instruction
  • Demonstrates knowledge of national, state, and district standards and trends concerning instructional methods, resources, and strategies
  • Demonstrates proficiency with technology including presentation equipment, word processing and desktop publishing; and a willingness to innovatively apply technology appropriately and effectively in the content area
  • Able and willing to work outside the traditional working hours and calendar of teachers, including evenings, weekends, and summers and perform moderate physical tasks
  • Expertise in working collaboratively with colleagues in areas of professional development, learning teams, new teacher support, instructional planning and/or curriculum mapping
  • Exemplary professional relationships with teachers, administrators, parents, students, and community

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The FACS Content Specialist works in conjunction with district leadership and various departments to ensure site/teacher/student success. 

 

The specialist:

  • Works with other specialists to design training for new and continuing teachers in the use of district materials, curricula, CTE State Standards, and CTE assessments
  • Meets with CTE FACS and Culinary Arts departments to train teachers in lab usage and maintenance
  • Assist director in evaluating teacher travel and student competition travel, according to department and district guidelines
  • Supports teacher with Culinary Arts events
  • Serves as a teacher liaison/mentor for all 7-12th grade FACS and Culinary Arts teachers
  • Assists district level and building level specialists, teachers, administrators, and other staff as necessary to understand content area needs, innovations, strategies, etc.
  • Acts as a liaison between the District and the Arizona Department of Education (ADE), institutes of higher education, business partners, professional organizations, and community groups as related to the specific content area
  • Serves as a model by demonstrating lessons in the classroom when appropriate
  • Coordinates teacher or staff professional development related to the content area
  • Serves as the key communicator regarding the content area to appropriate audiences
  • Provides leadership as part of the department to enhance cross-discipline integration
  • Provides leadership for the district curriculum content area sub-committee
  • Coordinates the writing and revision of district curricula in the content area
  • Coordinates the adoption of textbook, technological, and other material needs of the teachers in the content area
  • Monitors end of course testing/assessment
  • Maintains and expands current knowledge of curricula and instructional innovations
  • Assists in pursuing grant monies to enhance programs related to students and teachers
  • Maintains appropriate funding documentation (time and effort logs)
  • Works with parents and others in the community as necessary
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
