Base Rate:

$21.55

Performance Pay:

Available annually

New hire experience:

1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a five-year maximum

New hire education:

1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position

Class/Calendar:

B23, 12 months

Full-time (40 hours per week)

OVERVIEW:

To clean, repair, and maintain district instruments with emphasis on bowed instruments for orchestra use; to perform preventive maintenance to ensure availability and musicality of instruments; to maintain inventory and accurate recordkeeping of musical instruments; and to assist with other instrument repair as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school education or equivalent; mechanical aptitude and good manual dexterity; trade school certificate preferred
  • Minimum four years experience repairing and rebuilding/refurbishing orchestra instruments
  • Knowledge of repair procedures for all orchestra instruments (excluding harp and piano)
  • Skilled in the use of musical instrument repair tools (i.e. drill press, lathe, grinders, etc) and repair techniques
  • Possess, or ability to obtain, valid Arizona driver’s license
  • Computer proficiency to include use of basic software applications (Word, Excel, E-mail, etc)
  • Ability to problem solve, troubleshoot, assess and perform needed repairs and/or refurbishing for orchestra instruments to ensure high standards of tone, pitch, and playability
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, take initiative and meet deadlines with an accurate attention to detail while working with frequent interruptions, change in assignments and minimum supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and to establish and to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with teachers, students, district personnel at all levels, and outside agencies
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time; to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Respond to work order requests for service to district musical instruments throughout the district
  • Examine instruments and determine actions needed to restore musical instruments to proper performance levels and established industry standards
  • Troubleshoot and perform needed repairs on district musical instruments
  • Establish a preventive maintenance on district musical instruments
  • Coordinate the delivery and/or pick-up of musical instruments with schools/sites to ensure timeliness of service
  • Establish and maintain computerized inventory of musical instruments and order replacement parts to ensure adequate supply inventory and availability
  • Inspect and tag new and used musical instruments and equipment to ensure inventory availability
  • Maintain accurate recordkeeping to ensure reliable retrieval of data; conduct inventories and accurately prepare needed reports
  • Assist with other instrument repair as required
  • Regular and on-time attendance required
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
  • Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
